theQ was launched on June 16th, 2014 with the goal of doing local radio differently.
theQ can be heard anywhere there is internet and in this day and age, that is in your home, at work, in your car, and even in your pocket. You can take us with you on vacation or have a shared listening experience with your friend on the other side of the world. We are not bound by the reach of a transmitter or the rules of the FCC. theQ broadcasts from Quincy, IL but covers the world and at a higher quality than FM.
theQ was created by a group of friends who are broadcast professionals. In 2014 they formed RadioZilla, Inc. to support theQ and to serve as a resource for others wanting to start operations similar to theQ.
theQ is Contemporary Hit Radio (also known as CHR, hit list, current hits, hit music, top 40, or pop radio). theQ focuses on playing current and recurrent popular music as determined by the top 40 music charts, your requests, and local research. Along with top 40, theQ mixes in local artists that fit the format. theQ also runs several specialty shows which may feature other types of music.
theQ stream originates from our studio in Quincy, IL. Music and other audio elements are high quality linear files played from an AudioVAULT FleX radio automation system. All audio is then sent from the studio to our Quincy server (in the same building) where it is processed through Hans Van Zutphen’s Stereo Tool and encoded to both 64K AAC and 128K MP3. From there it is streamed to our data center: Googleplex East at 111 8th Avenue, Manhattan, NY. Googleplex East is the third largest building in NY and one of the most wired buildings in the world. You can learn more about this amazing building and data center here. When you connect to theQStation.com to play our stream you are connecting directly to this data center.
